Acute Global Limited has announced the appointment of Ms. Thato Agatha Sedirwa as its new Chief Investment Officer (CIO), a move that signals the Group’s intent to deepen its executive capability as it prepares for aggressive regional expansion. Ms. Sedirwa, a seasoned investment and financial services professional with more than two decades of experience across African markets.
Ms. Sedirwa brings a strong academic foundation to the position, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Actuarial Science from Butler University in the United States and advanced qualifications from the University of Stellenbosch Business School, including a Master of Philosophy in Development Finance and a Senior Management Development certification. Her technical expertise spans corporate finance advisory, private equity, valuations, due diligence leadership, capital markets transactions, and ESG systems management.
Strategic Leadership to Support Continental Ambitions
The appointment is aligned with Acute Global’s ongoing strategy to reinforce its governance systems and expand its leadership bench as the Group scales its footprint across the financial services value chain. Over the past few years, the Group has accelerated its involvement in insurance, fintech, pensions administration, debt management, and structured financial products. Industry observers note that Ms. Sedirwa’s breadth of experience positions her as a key figure in shaping the investment philosophy of a Group transitioning toward a more institutionalised and governance-driven operating model.
Her previous roles include senior positions at Grant Thornton Botswana, Africa Lighthouse Capital, Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited, Imara Group, and African Alliance. Across these institutions, she led assignments involving mergers and acquisitions, complex valuations, portfolio assessments, investor relations, and corporate transactions spanning insurance, mining, telecommunications, FMCG, hospitality, petrochemicals, property, healthcare, and transportation.
Strengthening Governance and Investment Discipline
Acute Global has indicated that Ms. Sedirwa will play a pivotal role in tightening investment processes, enhancing internal controls, fortifying regulatory compliance, and improving reporting standards across the Group’s subsidiaries. Her experience engaging with regulators such as the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) and the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA) is expected to deepen the Group’s adherence to regional governance frameworks.
By appointing a CIO with both actuarial and capital markets expertise, the Group signals a shift toward more rigorous investment evaluation and structured portfolio oversight.
