Countries in Southern Africa last month agreed to deploy forces to help quell a bloody jihadist insurgency wreaking havoc in northern Mozambique over the past three years.
President Mokgweetsi Masisi will tomorrow bid farewell to BDF as they join SADC troops in Mozambique.
“The Botswana Defence Force (BDF) will as part of the SADC Standby Force, deploy personnel for regional support to the Republic of Mozambique to combat the threat of terrorism and acts of violent extremism in the Cabo Delgado region in the northern part of the country as an element of SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM)”, said in a statement.
“The BDF contingent will work intently with the Forcas Armadas de Defesa de Mocambique (FADM) and other forces from the Southern Africa Development Community to include countries that have bilateral agreements with the Republic of Mozambique in designated sectors of responsibility within the Ca Delgado Region.”
